3D PRINTING DOCTOR WHO

Figures, parts, and other miscellaneous items that don't fit the standard 5.5" scale Character Options range of figures.

Maths lesson for anyone unsure how to convert between different scales: This is pretty simple, provided you know the scale you're coming from and the scale you're going to, just divide the scale you want to print in (1:6) by the scale the model is in now (1:9) and that will give you the amount all three dimensions of your model need to be increased by (example: 6 ÷ 9 = 1.5 or 150%) Below is a handy chart for how to convert between the various Doctor Who toy scales:

multiply dimensions of all pieces by....
to 12” scale To 8” scale To: 5.5” scale To 3.75” scale
From 12” Big Chief/Product Enterprise scale (1:6) n/a 0.6667 0.4583 0.3125
From 8” Mego scale (1:9) 1.5 n/a 0.6875 0.4688
From 5.5” Character Options Scale (approx 1:13) 2.1818 1.4545 n/a 0.6818
From 3.75” Character Options/Eaglemoss scale (approx (1:21) 3.3 2.1333 1.4667 n/a

Most slicer programs will allow you to adjust the scale of parts, but if yours does not, Chitubox is free and simply to use. You can even hit the File>Save As button to re-save the STL files at their new scale for later printing or editing.

Notes: Robert has used these parts to restore the appendages from a vintage 1975 Palitoy Talking Dalek. (Which were notoriously easy to lose) You can watch a YouTube video of his progress here.

1:6 Scale 3rd Doctor Head
by David Turner

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zm1WILTArqb1Il2HfB3bB7PggFGLiBan/
Notes: The first of what will hopefully be many 1:6 Big Chief scale heads designed by David Turner.
Note that it is still possible to print this at Character options 1:13ish scale, just reduce it by 44% in your slicer program before printing. (If you're printing resin, because there usually is some shrinkage, you may need to print a couple between about 43% and 48% to see which lines up best with whatever body you're using. )

1:6 Scale Meddling Monk Head from The Time Meddler
by David Turner

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P9WOcGyIwZBaoa_JwlTUxXrZ0ZGsTWa_
Notes: This is the original 1:6 Big Chief scale version of the head that was used in the 5.5" scale remix.
If for some reason, you want to do a 5.5" custom and only want the head, you should probably go with the remix version since it includes a neck and has a hole for a peg mount.

Notes: To print at 5.5" scale, shrink to about 10% of original size in your slicer.

1:6 Scale 14th Doctor head from 60th Anniversary Specials
by Leighton Humphrey

Notes: Based off of publicity photos of David Tennant as the 14th Doctor, looking about 12 years older than his 10th incarnation. This one is more or less in proper scale for 1:6 Big Chief figures, but to print at 5.5" scale, shrink to about 45% of original size in your slicer.

1:6 Scale Multi-Colour Classic Daleks
by Edward Felix

Download: https://makerworld.com/en/models/92698

Notes: These Daleks are specifically designed for printing on newer generation multi-color FDM printers, which as it says on the tin, will allow you to print designs using up to four different colors of filament as once. (You should also be able to print them as regular STL files as well.)

Beep the Meep from The Star Beast (Comic Book)
by Neill Gorton

Download: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6331333

Notes: This solid sculpture was designed as a Christmas tree ornament, but can be resized to fit on your toy shelf. I had to expand mine by about 140% to reach slightly-taller-than-waist-height on a Character Options figure.

If you are looking for the 2023 TV version, you can find it here.

Dalek Defense Drone from Revolution of the Daleks
by Dalek Mechanic

Download: https://makerworld.com/en/models/142523

Notes: This sculpture is nearly the right size for 8" Mego figures, but if you want to print it at 5.5" Character Options scale, you'll need to shrink it down to about 85% of current size.
The eye stalk and cattle prod arm are incredibly thin, and aren't likely to print proplerly in either FDM or resin printing. I would recommend making a series of plane cuts as shown below to carve the figure up into manageable pieces. (You might also want to split the skirt vertically down the center to and print the left and right halfs of the skirt flat on the build plate to avoid ugly hemisphere overhang) Once you are done, you can use 1.5mm wide brass rods to replace the eye stalk and arms with something more durable.
